The Beginning of AWCS
Invented some 40 years ago, AWCS did not make an impact in Asian cities until the last 10 years when new developments and redevelopments took place in cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Seoul. In most European cities this technology has been made a standard infrastructure by local governments and city planners.
As population densities increase worldwide, Government Planners, Developers, Architects and Engineers face huge challenges in providing the necessary infrastructure requirements created by the growth. Whilst tremendous advances have been made in water, sewerage and communication facilities, solid waste or “garbage” as it is more commonly called still gets handled in the traditional “bucket-collector” system. This traditional method involves a lot of vehicles, labour and cost... and is smelly, unsightly, unhealthy, inconvenient and costly.
